Apoya la lucha contra ELA / Help us to fight ALS

Anímate  apoyándonos en nuestra lucha, haz tu donación a la Asociación Andaluza de ELA y estarás apoyando  proyectos y necesidades de los enfermos, como son, entre otros;

- Fisioterapia Domiliciaria para Ventilodependientes

- Compra de sistemas de comunicación Alternativos (Sistemas oculares)
- Habilitacion Nueva sede

Dona tu "ayuda" con una transferencia a la cuenta de la Asociación Andaluza de ELA (declarada de utilidad pública):

ES62 2100 7317 9323 0008 9008
Transferencias desde el extranjero Num BIC: CAIXESBBXXX

Muchas Gracias. -----------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

It is time to do something for the others!

We take the challenge to fight  against ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.).

How to Do it?  This is our Plan:
It is very simple = Cycling!

Think of people with ALS that unfortunately cannot pedal as you can or run as you want. We are going to fight ALS pedalling 109 kms around the Cape in Cape Town. That’s the challenge and we need your sponsorship!

Come on! Help us to do it and feel part of this huge team helping others with their difficulties.

A total of 35,000 people is going to be there on 8th March, some of them with different ideas, plans and challenges.

Please help us to get as much as possible; the ALS association needs some funds to develop some new projects, between others:

- Physiotherapy for Artificial ventilation illness.

- Purchase of communication Systems.

- Furnish the new headquarters or ALS Association.

For this reason we need your support sponsoring us in order to get as much funds as possible for ALS fight.

We fight against ALS and we can do it! We are willing doctors, researchers, volunteers and families receive this support in order to overcome their daily battle against this terrible illness.

CAPE ARGUS ( CYCLE TOUR) CAPE TOWN (SUDAFRICA)

The Cape Town Cycle Tour[1] is an annual cycle race hosted in Cape TownSouth Africa, usually 109 km (68 mi) long. It is the first event outside Europe to be included in the International Cycling Union's Golden Bike Series.[2]
South Africa hosts some of the largest, by number of entrants, sporting events in the world with three being the largest of their type. The Cape Town Cycle Tour, with as many as 35 000 cyclists taking part, is the world's largest individually timed cycle race. The other two are the world's largest ultra-marathon running event, the Comrades Marathon, and the world's largest open water swim, theMidmar Mile.
The Cycle Tour forms the last leg of the Giro del Capo, a multi-stage race for professional and leading registered riders.[3]
It is traditionally staged on the second Sunday of March and has enjoyed well known competitors such as Miguel IndurainJan Ulrichand Lance Armstrong.

What is Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
A-myo-trophic comes from the Greek language. "A" means no or negative. "Myo" refers to muscle, and "Trophic" means nourishment–"No muscle nourishment." When a muscle has no nourishment, it "atrophies" or wastes away. "Lateral" identifies the areas in a person's spinal cord where portions of the nerve cells that signal and control the muscles are located. As this area degenerates it leads to scarring or hardening ("sclerosis") in the region.
As motor neurons degenerate, they can no longer send impulses to the muscle fibers that normally result in muscle movement. Early symptoms of ALS often include increasing muscle weakness, especially involving the arms and legs, speech, swallowing or breathing. When muscles no longer receive the messages from the motor neurons that they require to function, the muscles begin to atrophy (become smaller). Limbs begin to look "thinner" as muscle tissue atrophies.
